Story
Urgent steps are needed to restore and protect the Commons paths many of which become muddy and waterlogged resulting in pot holes. Improving the paths will not only make the Commons more accessible for all our visitors but will help protect the natural habitats that the paths lead through.
Currently, without funding, there is the ongoing task to maintain paths and patch up areas of damage. By investing in improvements to the Commons' paths and restoring the surface of the track to a high standard with addition of a camber and improved drainage we can ensure they are accessible all year round, for years to come.
In total we need to raise nearly £120,000 for the repairs to the paths and, while the majority of the funding will hopefully come from grant applications, WPCC will need to provide 20% in matched funding. Continuing from the success of the previous Access for All fundraising appeal, which helped us restore the Inner Windmill Road, we have relaunched the appeal to help provide this funding. We are, therefore, appealing to you, the people who use and love the Commons, to help us improve the paths for everyone.
Please donate today and help more people to explore and enjoy the Commons. Your donation will help improve over 2,500 m of path.
UPDATE MAY 2023: GOOD NEWS!
South Western Railway have awarded WPCC a grant of £75,000 towards improving access to the Windmill on the Commons by restoring shared cycle paths, installing bike racks and preserving the iconic building itself. They stated that the fact we had raised matched funds made them more confident in awarding the charity a grant. THANK YOU if you have already made a donation!!
If we are lucky enough to raise more than our target, then donations will go towards projects that improve access, facilities and the landscape for our visitors.
