Two consecutive earthquakes in February 2023 have devastated parts of southern Turkey and northern Syria, causing unimaginable hardships for families already affected by years of war. More than 50,000 people have died across the two countries and millions more have lost everything.

The amount of aid which has reached North West of Syria, specifically regions of Idleb and Aleppo, still does not match the immense need in the region. Not only have homes been destroyed, other important infrastructure has been demolished, including water, sanitation and roads. This makes the re-building effort even more challenging.

Syria is a crisis within a crisis. Over two million were already living in temporary shelter and tents before the earthquake struck due to over 10 years of conflict. 3.7 million children are experiencing extreme exposure to danger, displacement and distress due to the current crisis in Syria and 99% of children in the region of Idleb are waking up crying and are showing severe signs of trauma.

Street Child is already making a difference in North West Syria with food, shelter and child protection activities. We are continuing to go to the hardest to reach areas and delivering immediate humanitarian aid in order to save lives but there is still so much more that needs to be done.
