It is a Wonderful Life...
Simon Callow CBE (Trustee)
"Help us to spread the word to fellow acting and stage management friends in need of support this winter. The Actors' Benevolent Fund has just launched its Winter Grants programme, providing support at one of the most difficult times of year for many.
Actors and stage managers have always been conscious that we, as fellow-workers, have the power to ease each other’s journeys through the more challenging chapters of life. The winter months can be particularly hard for freelance creatives.
In this digital age, we must do whatever we can to celebrate the importance of person-to-person connection. In these endlessly changing and challenging times, a sense of belonging is vital in helping to tackle isolation, increasing levels of well-being in our professional community. Inviting a chum to one of our inclusive (and free-of-charge) events could make a big difference to their lives. For over 140 years, the ABF has provided a vital network, crucially important to the profession, enabling actors and stage managers to connect with each other, building valuable and enduring relationships.
The ABF is more than just a grant-making organisation, it is dedicated to building community within the profession. Our grant officers develop unique relationships with each beneficiary, helping wherever the need is greatest. We can point the way to other support services and practical resources and provide online workshops and opportunities to connect with others through our events programme.
Give a helping hand this Christmas to someone in need. A gift of £50 or £100 could bring much-needed warmth and support to those in need.”
Join me in making a gift to the ABF this Christmas.
“You helped us in our darkest times when life was crashing down around us and continued supporting us through incredibly challenging days, you enabled us to pay our bills, keep our house, buy food, buy medical supplies, comforted us with friendly conversation with people who understand this wonderful but tough industry, shared our lows and also celebrated the good times.”
Thanks to the Actors’ Benevolent Fund, I have not had to face this challenge alone. They have helped me get through one of the toughest, most difficult times in my life, and I will never forget them for it.
I would like to thank everyone at the Actors' Benevolent Fund (ABF). Without their help and support, I would not have been able to afford certain things I need because of my disability. With the help of the ABF, I was able to purchase a mobility scooter that is essential for me to get around, enjoy seeing my family, and shop. It is without doubt so crucial that anyone, actor or stage manager unable to work due to health or retirement get in touch with the ABF. The wonderful people at the charity are more than happy to listen to you and help in any way they can. Many thanks to the Actors' Benevolent Fund. May theatre live forever, and may the people who are involved in theatre bring happiness and experience of live performances to all of us.
