Tsé Bit’a’í Middle School in Shiprock, NM needs support for their band program.
Story
Located on the Navajo Nation, Tsé Bit’a’í Middle School has a thriving band program that continues to grow. However, to keep up with this growth and ensure that every interested student has the opportunity to participate, the program needs your help! The school is in need of flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, and French horns to allow more students to participate.
Music plays an important role in the Shiprock community. We have the opportunity to put on performances each year as well as travel to either Denver, Colorado or Salt Lake City, Utah to participate in the Music In The Parks Festival each year. I have worked in my district for 12 years and I could potentially have 60 students in Band each year if my school could provide instruments for students, however that number decreases because students and their families cannot afford an instrument. Being able to provide instruments through my school would allow more participation and provide a well-rounded experience for my students. - Dave Bridgewater, Band Director
With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.
Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through the Foundation’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The Foundation then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
