Story
Straley Elementary School's music program needs your support! The program is in need of flutes, trombones, a baritone, alto saxophones, trumpets, clarinets, and cymbals to allow additional students to participate and replace instruments that are aged beyond repair.
Our music program is more than just a place where students learn to play instruments—it’s a vibrant community where students grow both musically and personally. Every day, we see how the power of music brings students from all walks of life together, forming bonds that transcend differences and foster a sense of belonging. One of the most meaningful aspects of our program is the way it opens doors to opportunity. For many of our students, learning an instrument offers a way to channel their emotions, express themselves, and develop confidence.
The impact of donations to our program cannot be overstated. Many of our students come from under-resourced backgrounds and don’t have the means to access quality instruments. Donations allow us to provide these students with the tools they need to succeed—whether it’s a trumpet, a clarinet, or a drum set. Every instrument we receive becomes more than just a piece of equipment; it becomes a vehicle for a student’s creativity and growth. -Mrs. Walsh, Music Teacher
With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.
Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through the Foundation’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The Foundation then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
