Nānākuli High and Intermediate School in Wai'anae, HI needs support for their music programs.
Nānākuli High and Intermediate School needs your help! The school is in need of tubas, classical guitars, ephoniums, and ukuleles to replace aged instruments that are beyond repair and reduce sharing.
Nānākuli is the only school in the Leeward District of O'ahu with both an Intermediate and High School under one administration. Our campus sits on 60 acres of Hawaiian Home Lands in the heart of Nānākuli Valley. The school population is diverse; however it is predominantly made up of Hawaiian or Part-Hawaiian students. Based on the school motto, Kūlia i Ka Nuʻu ("We Seek the Highest"), NHIS seeks to graduate self-directed learners, complex thinkers, effective communicators, and respectful and culturally sensitive contributing members of society.
The students of Nānākuli are storytellers, musicians, artists, and performers. The Fine Arts, as well as the Nānākuli Performing Arts Center is an important place for students to express themselves in ways they cannot in other classes. To continue to support the students in their growth in the arts and as people, we ask for your help in providing quality instruments and equipment. Many of the instruments and equipment are old, worn down, and barely working which will dampen their experience in our programs. If you’ve ever tried to improve on an instrument that was barely working, you understand the frustration they might be going through.
Our goal is to provide our students with the best possible experience. This means providing them with quality instruction, as well as quality materials and equipment to give them the best chance of success in our classes. - Tate Sakamoto & Blythe Ezell, Music Teachers
With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.
Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through MHOF’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF). MHOF then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
Donate today and help these students foster their love of music, every dollar counts!
