Story

The Horace Maynard Middle School band needs your help! They are in need of alto saxophones, tubas, clarinets, trumpets, flutes, and trombones to eliminate students having to share mouthpieces, to serve more students interested in enrolling, to replace aged and broken instruments and to eliminate borrowing instruments from other schools.

"Most of the instruments in the middle school are broken. We have many instruments in their cases never used again because of their condition. One of our french horns has completely broken in two. Most of the percussion instruments are low quality or don't even play correctly. Better quality instruments would help the 6th 7th and 8th grade band members to have a better music experience, and to lead their future music career." - 7th Grade Trumpet

"It could impact it by having better sound, it could make our image better and we've always really needed help with repairs due to the age and mold on some of the instruments. My last saxophone from the school had a lot of dents, the pads were ripped and the keys were falling apart." - 8th Grade Alto Saxophone

"My school needs new instruments simply because some of our instruments are falling apart. Some are broken and cannot be played and a lot don't sound like they are supposed to. Another reason why is because we love to play. Some of us have to share an instrument and sanitize the mouthpiece. I love band, but I think we should have better instruments. I love the friends I made while being here but I think my experience would be better if I had a new instrument." - 8th Grade Band Student

With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.

Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through MHOF’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF). MHOF then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.

Donate today and help these students foster their love of music, every dollar counts!
