Story
Last year Steve Cuthbertson completed a bike ride to raise money for Amicii and raised over £7,500! He would like to raise that amount again.
This year Steve has offered to do another bike ride to raise money for us again.
‘A BIT OF A BIKE RIDE’
Steve’s ride will start by flying to Morocco and he will cycle to Tangiers where he will get the ferry to Tarifa, the southernmost tip of Europe – it’s only 1800 miles of hilly terrain from there to home!
Steve will be cycling and camping along the way, crossing western, central, and northern Spain. He will cross the Pyrenees into France and up through France to Caen where he will get the ferry back to Portsmouth and then cycle back to the kennels.
Steve believes that he can achieve this is 3 weeks averaging 85 miles a day therefore, he has 3 weeks off work to complete the whole ride.
The entire route is 1,892 miles (3,045 KM) consists of 1,743 miles (2,805 KM) of cycling. It seems to be around 82,000 feet (25,000 metres) of climbing.
Steve has a few concerns which include:
• His bike and luggage all getting to the airport at the same time as him.
• Riding to the port in Tangier. It’s only 10 miles, but he has no idea whatsoever what the cycling conditions will be like.
• Heat in Spain.
• Distance between settlements in Spain and places to buy food/water.
• Finding somewhere to camp.
• The hilly bits are the main concern is just whether he’ll be able to do the distance. He knows he can ride 100 miles and more in a day, but getting up day after day and knocking off 100 miles for three weeks is an entirely different prospect.
This campaign is a real challenge and we are hoping that you will get behind Steve and make some generous donations – Remember it’s Steve working really hard to raise the much-needed finances for Amicii.
