Story
Staff from World Vision have completed a gruelling G6K with a difference - this is three ascents and three descents of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in September. We were delighted that World Vision UK's CEO Mark Sheard joined our planning meeting to encourage and pray for us.
The team pulled together from the minute they met at the bunkhouse, less than a mile down the road from the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct. As the sun rose we walked passed the viaduct and the railway line to start to ascend Whernside. The rest of the day consisted of stunning scenery, Janet's amazing leadership and navigation skills and seven people demonstrating they were willing to test their grit as they prayed that every step they took was one a child in a poorer country wouldn't have to.
Fuelled by flapjacks, cheese scones, brownies and Andrea as their excellent support crew, the 24 miler ended in a sprint finish for some of the team, as they spied the bunkhouse where the adventure started. (And smelled the local, Ribblehead recovery brews that were being poured out to help them rehydrate.)
