Story
Willaston Primary Academy would have been hosting the 41st Worm Charming Championships this June, but unfortunately due to current circumstances we have had to cancel the traditional Worm Charming, and have opted to go virtual! Worm Charming is a community event at Willaston, and each year the school plans and prepares for the big event, with families coming from near and far to take part in the 30minute challenge to charm as many worms out of the ground, and take the title for most worms charmed!
On Saturday 27th June 2020, we will attempt to carry on this tradition, albeit remotely. Through technology of streaming and social media we hope to see as many families from Willaston, and around the country (world) online and help us raise the community spirit for 30 minutes of Worm Charming!
For Willaston Primary Academy, and its PTA (FWSA - Friends of Willaston Primary Academy), this annual event helps us raise huge funds that we use to support our school and the children that go there. Before school closed on 20thMarch, the FWSA and its committee were planning upcoming fundraising events to raise funds for our new goal of supporting the Willaston Wellbeing Project, where the aim was to convert a small room in school to be a Wellness/Mindfulness room a place for children to have some private time at school. As well as this room, our aim was to also improve our outdoor bike shed, therefore encouraging the kids to ride/ scoot to school, also helping to reduce parking issues that we sometimes experience.
We would still like to try and raise some funds, and are using this Virtual Worm Charming opportunity to spread the word to family and friends and rebuild our community spirit, while raising some money for our school and children. Our aim is to raise £500, less than 10% of the funds we raised in 2019 our 40th Anniversary celebrations.
We appreciate that many people are experiencing hardship at this moment, but if anyone is able to join with us to create a nurturing space at school that is going to be in high demand in the coming months, we would be immensely grateful.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you remotely on Saturday 27th June at 2pm (see our Facebook page for more details - https://www.facebook.com/TheFriendsOfWillastonSchoolAssociation/ )
