World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success more than their parents' educational background or income. We want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Just 10 minutes a day reading with a child makes a big difference to their future success.
World Book Day improves levels of book ownership. Every year children look forward to receiving their £1 book token, and 1 in 3 children receiving free school meals said the book they bought with their WBD book token was the first book they had of their own.
We want to encourage children to:
Discover reading for pleasure! World Book Day makes books and reading a fun part of every child's day
Talk about books together: read with your friends and family to make books more fun, memorable and magic.
Thanks to your fundraising, we can bring books to the children and young people who need them most. World Book Day provides books in the UK and Ireland, and supports Book Aid International to send books across the world.
With your funds, we can reach even more children and give them a book of their own. A donation of £1 helps us to get £1 book tokens and books to every child.
