Story

Thurso Community Development Trust is a registered charity. Since the Coronavirus outbreak, our team of staff and volunteers have put 90% of work on the back burner in order to prioritise the safety of our community and lend a hand where it's needed most. As have many other voluntary organisations and community groups.

Of course, we are more than happy to help and will undoubtedly continue to do so but as an organisation, we must be aware of our own financial fragility.

This fundraiser aims to raise money to continue our current work and will enable us to reach even more people. Any money raised will support our volunteer team and will allow us to purchase essential items which will ensure the safety of the residents in Thurso.

As some of you will know, we issue a community magazine and were due to release issue three at the beginning of April. Sales of the magazine (usually £2) and support from fabulous advertisers means that the magazine acts as an income generator for us. Given the current situation, we understand that producing a magazine which people nip out to purchase is a bad move. However we've decided to press on and print issue three albeit slightly differently! We are currently working as quickly as we can to redesign the magazine so that it can bring useful hints and tips while we readjust to working, learning and remaining at home. The aim is also to provide some light relief to those in our town! To reach as many people as possible, this special issue of the magazine will be free of charge and delivered directly to your door. Should it be unsafe to deliver at the time of distribution, the magazine will be available to collect, for free, from various shops in town.

If you're worried about your own financial situation, do not feel pressure to donate. There are other ways you can help us. Visit our website to sign up as a volunteer! www.thursocdt.co.uk

When we formed, back in 2018, we agreed that our goal was to make Thurso a better place to live, work and visit. Our goal remains exactly the same. By supporting those who need us the most, we can make the best of what is certainly, a very bad situation. We hope to raise a smile, make people feel safe and supported and gather as a community when it feels like the world is against us.

Anything you can spare will help us achieve these goals and as a thank you, you'll receive the special edition of the Thurso Community Magazine!

Thank you all, we've received countless offers of help to date and we are grateful for every single one.

Stay safe,

The Thurso Community Development Trust Team.
