Story
The Problem
There is a generation of young people emerging with the lowest mental and emotional health levels ever recorded. We believe we can help to bring a positive change.
These are the current stats (Young minds UK National statistics, 2021):
58% of young people expressed a decline in their mental health since the pandemic
Almost 3 in 5 young people suffer from a mental health issue
Of these 40% have limited or no access to support
87% of young people said they felt lonely or isolated
1 in 14 young people have attempted suicide by the age of 17.
The Programme
Our Project is run as 1hour sessions over 8 weeks by trained facilitators. We run in schools, community centre's and youth group settings. The project is best suited to be delivered in small groups of up to 10 young people per project. As you will see from this image, we look at topics such as self-esteem, mindset and aspirations among many more.
Erics Story
After moving from America and struggling to fit in, Eric explained that he had lost all confidence. He came into the project looking down and avoiding eye contact. We didnt hear him speak or share with the group until we were a few weeks in. By week 6 Eric came alive and shared with the group his dream of being a Marine Biologist. The rest of the group clapped him and told him how amazing he would be at this. This helped him to feel accepted and gave him confidence in his dream. On the final session, Eric was very vulnerable, teared up and shared with the group this project has boosted my confidence by 10 times, and I really needed that because I was starting to lose hope in my future. There were many teary eyes from the boys and the facilitators that day and all the group celebrated him for being brave in sharing so openly. We know that with the backing of others and the belief in himself, Eric will go on to achieve his dreams for the future.
