Story
During this pandemic The Porch has put into place a contingency plan to be able to continue supporting the homeless and vulnerably housed in Oxford as many are estranged from family or isolated. This virus presents a serious threat to this high risk group, many of whom have long term health conditions and often face difficulties accessing healthcare this means the consequences could be life-threatening.
We have in place a screening protocol for all staff and volunteers who are generously giving up their time to help us deliver daily meals, welfare checks and essential items. Its important for staff and volunteers to wear Personal Protection Equipment and be mindful that the virus is likely to enter the homeless sector through staff rather than through members.
We are working in collaboration with other agencies to provide an outreach meal drop of point in the City Centre to those rough sleeping, we will be providing a 24hr number to contact one of our managers in the event they become seriously ill and need urgent care.
We are aware that this pandemic is a fluid situation and we are continuously re-assessing our service delivery and the need of our members.
To adapt our Day Centre to provide outreach services though the coming months we are having to purchase additional Personal Protective Equipment, Guidance and Training, First Aid Kits, Disposable Catering Containers, Flasks, Disposable Utensils, Thermal Bags and Items for The Porch Dignity Packs for our female members.
Please donate every penny counts, we would be hugely grateful for your support through this unprecedented situation.
