Story
Lister Steps are a community-based charity in Tuebrook, Liverpool and have been supporting local children & families since 1997. Parts of Tuebrook are amongst the 1% most deprived in the whole of the UK. We want to do something about that.
Thanks to National Lottery Players and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are in the process of restoring The Old Library, a much-loved local Grade II listed building which has sadly been left to decay since 2006. From the renovated building, we will offer an extended range of community services & activities that we hope will bring much-needed support, opportunities & regeneration to our area.
Work started on site in April 2019 but unfortunately the hidden damage we've uncovered across the fabric of the building has been far worse than we could have expected. Much of The Old Library is affected by wet & dry rot as a result of water entering the building over the years it stood empty. This has caused serious issues with the roof - which may not have survived another winter if we hadn't started work in 2019 - as well as the timber supporting the historic plaster around the building. Sadly, we have already lost the ornate plasterwork ceiling in the Entrance Hall and the magnificent central rooflight above what will become our community cafe is also at risk.
Since discovering the extent & severity of damage across the building, we desperately need additional funds to complete these historic repairs and ensure that the building delivers everything we've promised to our community.
The OId Library has always been a source of opportunity & inspiration for people in our area. Please donate today to help us continue this legacy. With your support, we can re-open this cherished building as a space where everyone is welcome, where people are supported & empowered to improve thier lives, where connections are made and where our community can come together to learn, celebrate & have fun. Thank you.
