Story

Imagine a generation of children growing up not knowing what an otter, a kingfisher or even an acorn is. With your help we can ensure the children of Essex will.

It is incredible to think that such wonderful wildlife and fabulous flora might never be seen by today's children and even more mind boggling that they wouldnt even know the word for it. The Lost Words was a reaction to changes made to the Oxford Junior Dictionary, where new words such as broadband were introduced and many of those describing the natural world disappeared. Back in 2015 an open letter was sent, signed by prominent naturalists, writers, artists and defenders of the natural world, to try to reverse it and as a result Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris came together to write this book. They created a fascinating and informative look at the natural world that children can enjoy learning about. But only if we do something now to ensure this book is in all of our 800 schools in Essex, please help us to save the lost words of nature!

Please help ensure no more words are lost, donating just £20 will see one book in one school but remember we want to reach all 800 schools so please give what you can. If you donate £120 a member of our Education team will conduct a special assembly at the school to present the book and talk about the wildlife and habitat of beautiful Essex.

£20 will buy one copy of 'The Lost Words' for a school in Essex.

£40 will buy two copies of 'The Lost Words' for schools in Essex.

£60 will buy three copies of 'The Lost Words' for schools in Essex.

£120 a member of our Education team will conduct a special assembly at the school to present the book and talk about the wildlife and habitat of beautiful Essex.

We have raised £8,200.00 offline and so our target has now been revised to £7,800.00 (9th August 2019).
