Story

For the very first time, People First has charity places on the Great Manchester Run 10k, taking place on the 26th September 2021. We currently have five volunteer runners, Damon, Debby, Linda, Tasha and Ricky. They are are running to raise awareness and funds for the work that People First does in the local community via the Hospitality Academy to empower and support people with learning difficulties and/or autism.

If you already have a Manchester 10k place, but no charity to run for yet, please join us! You can also join our campaign if you do not have a place, but would like to fundraise for us on your own.

About the Hospitality Academy:

People First provide life changing opportunities for people with learning difficulties and/or autism aged 16-24 across Cumbria. The Centre for Learning Team, based at the People First Conference Centre, Milbourne Street, Carlisle, provide a range of training, skills and development opportunities with the aim of improving employment prospects, social inclusion and independent living. Receiving on the job training within a busy working conference centre as part of the in-house 'Hospitality Academy', students are able to achieve accredited qualifications with Open Awards in catering, hospitality, conference centre management and administration skills. Upon completion of the programme, Hospitality Academy students will be employed at People First or supported to take up employment elsewhere.

The Hospitality Academy Internship serves as a genuine stepping stone to employment and independence; with many skills acquired transferable to other industries. This will in turn improve the life skills, education and enterprise of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people; addressing inequality, deprivation, social exclusion and most importantly, enabling more people with learning difficulties in the local community to fulfil their true potential.
