Story
For decades, Black people have been misunderstood and under-represented in various parts of society. We at the Open Minds Project are passionate about bridging this gap. One of our goals is to provide schools with free books that educate young children about the beauty and reality of diversity.
We want the next generation to be open-minded and educated about themselves and others who look different from them. The books we donate to schools are intentionally selected to expand the storytelling and stories available to children.
We believe that access to these books will make the education system more grounded, robust, and diverse. The books will enable teachers to nurture children to have a balanced socio-cultural worldview for a better society.
To date, over 20 schools in Brighton and Hove have received a box of books, thanks to the donations received so far. This was made possible by generous members of the public who donated £2,286 in the now closed fundraiser set up by our funder https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/arienrhi-toby
There are still ~40 more Brighton and Hove schools we would love to reach before the end of the Autumn term. Thanks to Brighton and Hove Councils donation, we have a whopping £1,000. Then the incredible students and staff of Chailey School in Lewes, topped it by raising £1,300 through various fundraising activities. In addition, the awesome team at Graphite Digital donated £500 to further drive this mission. We are so grateful for their support. However, we need still need more!
Help us to create a more grounded, robust, and diverse education system. Donate any amount you can. Every pound counts to enable us to make more difference in the lives and future of our children.
