Story
One area we are currently working on is delivering what children and young people with migraine have asked for and desperately need.
Migraine is not only extremely painful but also unpredictable and causes significant anxiety for young people as they don't know when or where a migraine will strike. Young people tell us that they always need to be prepared just in case and that migraine prevents them from experiencing life to the full.
For children, migraine can present as a severe and debilitating headache, however, vomiting, stomach pain and visual disturbances such as aura are also common. When a migraine attack starts, it is important that a young person can access the right care immediately, wherever they are. This would include instant access to medication, the need to sleep and a dark and quiet environment.
Our aim is that children and young people will receive a faster diagnosis combined with full understanding and support in education and at home. Young people themselves will be able to access age-appropriate materials that explain migraine, how they can manage their condition and how to seek help and support when they are struggling.
This year we have launched new web pages and social media support for children and their parents. We are reaching out to schools, to help school staff plan how to support children at school and have a campaign in progress to send migraine information to GPs and practice nurses.
If you can donate today, any amount would be hugely appreciated. We are a small and cost-effective charity, with just twelve members of staff but with a huge mission ahead of us. Your support will keep helping and making a real and lasting difference to the millions who live with migraine in the UK.
