Story
Most women go into pregnancy expecting healthy babies, but sadly there are many couples who lose a baby. This can occur at any point in the pregnancy or during delivery. The reasons for the loss are very varied and the gestation ranges from 16 weeks to 42 weeks. The rate for stillbirth is 1 in 200, the rate of congenital abnormalities is 1 in 47 and the premature delivery rate is 7%.
This event has a devastating effect not just on the woman, and her partner but also the wider family and friends. A mother needs to give birth in a psychologically safe space where she and her partner and family can mourn their loss, and make special memories with their baby in the precious time that they have together.
We have created that space at Hillingdon and have provided a year's worth of Petal specialist baby counselling, but want to raise the funds to provide it next year, and on-going. A package for a year costs £20,000. Counselling is so important. The package allows for a couple to have 6 sessions of counselling, and a further 6 sessions when they fall pregnant again.
Thank you for helping us to reach our goal.
