Story

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway is celebrating 70 years!! The charity was formed in 1951 by parents of children who wanted a better life for their children. Over the subsequent 70 years, the organisation has grown and developed and today, we are the leading provider of training and support for people with learning disabilities in Sheffield. We support up to 600 adults and children with learning disabilities and their carers every week and provide over 100,000 hours of support every year.

With the pandemic having disrupted large amounts of our charity's income over the past year, we need your support now more than ever before. Whether it is through a simple donation, taking part in one of our fundraising events, or simply by sharing our posts on social media, we are grateful for support in every shape and form.

Throughout the next year we will be celebrating our 70th anniversary through a number of exciting initiatives, including Sponsor Me 70, The Jubilee Draw and 70 Stories of Sheffield Mencap. Follow us on social media to keep up to date about our activities and the amazing people helping us along the way.
