URGENT APPEAL FOR SAFI
8 year old Safi was relinquished into the Just Whippets care in December 2022. She has chronic rhinitis which is currently being treated with antibiotics. Safi is a gentle, friendly and affectionate little girl and has settled in very well in her new home. Unfortunately yesterday her foster Mum Samantha (founder of the Whippet Appreciation Society group on Facebook) noticed Safi was limping badly. Safi suddenly took a turn for the worst and lost all movement and blood flow to her rear leg. She was rushed immediately to the Vets, who diagnosed a blood clot/embolism which required an urgent veterinary referral the same day.
Time was of the essence as Safi had no pulse in her back leg and her toe nails had turned blue showing lack of blood flow. She was also crying and clearly in pain. She spent her first night at the Oakwood veterinary hospital in Cheshire and the following day undergoing CT scans, blood tests etc before being referred to the cardiac specialist Vets. She is likely to be in hospital for several days. At this present time, we are awaiting more news on her condition and as soon as we know more, further updates will be posted. Safis emergency care to date is currently estimated to cost over £3000 and this is very likely to rise a lot more as more tests and interventions are carried out.
Anything you can give to help us cover Safis medical bills would be fantastic. She is a lovely girl who needs all the support and prayers she can get right now.
Just Whippets Rescue is a small registered charity. The charity was set up over 12 years ago to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome whippets and whippet X's in the UK. To date we have helped over 900 whippets over the years. All our funds are raised by selling Christmas Cards, Calendars and general fundraising events throughout the year. The Charity is self funded and with no government help. After the last few years of Covid it had been very difficult to fundraise, so we would really appreciate any donated amount at this difficult time. Anything you can give will make a difference. Thank you.
