At SLCSE, our 11th graders plan and execute a field trip to Washington DC, to experience and learn about the history of our nation. For many of our students, this will be the first time travelling away from family. Our students take the healthy risk of stepping out of their comfort zone to stand on their own.
We are able to visit Smithsonian museums dedicated to American history, art, African American history and culture, the Holocaust, air and space, natural history, the American Indian tribes, and many more. We visit the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. We will see hundreds of monuments dedicated to people, movements, groups, conflicts and wars. This experience saturates our students with the history of our country in a way that textbooks and classrooms cannot.
