St. Joseph's Primary School in Rokon, South Sudan was built by local people intent on a better future for their children. Because the school is free to all many children walk for miles get there.
Each of the four classes, built by the Edith Jackson Trust in 2010, has around 100 children with one teacher. The children cram in to the windows just to listen. It is desperately under resourced yet the local people are resilient and resourceful. There are not enough desks, benches, books, pencils, rulers, you name it they share it between perhaps 10 or 20 children. There are local suppliers, and local craftsmen, so the money we raise will go to the Edith Jackson Trust who will invest in the local economy to provide the school just what is needed. These are amazing people who smile despite disaster, who have hope despite of war, and who long for a flourishing future. Will you help us to help them help themselves?
