Story

Help us build a Road to the Arctic

The John Rae Society is launching a £150k Road to the Arctic fundraising campaign that will kick-start the building of the proposed John Rae Arctic Centre.

The building of this road is the vital first step towards the creation of an internationally renowned visitor centre that will share the true story and ethos of Dr John Rae, and will cement Orkneys past, present and future connection with Arctic exploration and discovery. It is an important milestone for the project. £84 will Fund a Foot of the 1800ft stretch of road.

The John Rae Society aims to restore The Hall of Clestrain! This is, the famous John Rae’s 18th Century family home. It is an ‘A’ listed building of considerable distinction. We plan to restore the Hall and turn it into an amazing events centre and a resource for the community of Orkney.
