Story
When Rhyss became homeless at just 18, he suffered with his mental health and spent time rough sleeping and in hostels; after becoming addicted to drugs he also had a spell in prison. His situation was so desperate he attempted to take his own life on numerous occasions. In 2017, TRC visited the hostel where Rhyss was staying in Newcastle and from the very first run he says that something changed inside. Rhyss attributes the Charity with helping him to stay off drugs and for giving him back a sense of pride in what he could achieve. He now has his own flat, a job, volunteers at TRC and helps out at other local homeless charities. Rhyss also won a Newcastle Council Service User Inspiration Award to mark his incredible journey.
I never thought running would help me change my ways and recover but it really did work and I honestly think I wouldnt be the person I am today if I didnt meet The Running Charity.
Rhyss is running the London Marathon 2019, please consider donating to support The Running Charitys work.
