Story

The run that gives back to pets in need

Animal lovers are taking to the streets, home gym and even their back garden to show their support for Blue Cross. By taking on a virtual marathon, we can change the lives of pets in need.

From homeless kittens and abandoned dogs to neglected horses and unwanted rabbit litters, this fundraising will help Blue Cross provide healthy food and a safe place to sleep to vulnerable pets.

The funds raised will help Blue Cross work with the pets in our care to do everything we can to find them loving new homes, and help us treat sick and injured pets when their owners have fallen on hard times.

Finally these funds will help Blue Cross promote responsible pet ownership in schools and community groups, helping ensure a better future for the pets of tomorrow.

Together we can help pets like Jarvis

Locked away without any food or water, Jarvis was days if not hours away from death. Thankfully, he was found just in time and brought to Blue Cross.

Poor Jarvis was starving, thirsty and confused when he was found trapped inside a cupboard in an abandoned flat after being left behind by his previous owners. Thankfully, the landlord found the Burmese-cross while clearing out the property, and alerted our nearby centre in Torbay, Devon.

Jo Dempsey, Animal Welfare Assistant there, said: The landlord said the tenants had left the property about three days before Jarvis was found. He was very thin, and we had to give him small meals four times a day to bulk him out a bit without him eating too much and getting poorly. But considering what he went through, Jarvis was the loveliest boy and just wanted attention and company.

Therefore, it didn't take the young cat, then aged between seven and 10 months old, long to find a loving family. And after 10 days recuperating in our care, he went to live with Amy and Lionel Cassidy and their two daughters.

Jarvis snoozes for much of the day but springs in to life for playtime when Gracie arrives home from school, where she often draws pictures of her beloved pet.

Hes perfect, hes made for us, said Amy.
