Story
Mike Marsh was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2021, and passed away just over five weeks later on 17 June 2021, at the age of 67. Mike was a much-loved husband to Anna, and father to their two children Emma (30) and Stevie (28).
Mike was a man who loved the simple things in life, like his children, a family party, holidays and telling stories of his 24 years in the armed services. He wasnt one for long in-depth conversations, or emotional ones, but he showed his love to the children and Anna, and made sure that through his hugs and words, that they knew they were loved. He enjoyed good food (especially cake!) and precious time with friends.
Anna met Mike when she was 18, and they married when she was 20 years old. Mike served as a Corporal in the Royal Signals until the age of 40, and was stationed and lived with Anna in Germany, Cyprus, Canada and then returned to the UK, living and working in Darlington, North Allerton and most recently Cambridge.
Tragically, Mike only lived for just over five weeks after his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. While he was in hospital, Anna read an article to him about new research conducted by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, into the use of Artificial Intelligence to bring early diagnostics for pancreatic cancer a step closer to reality.
Donations will support the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicines research, with support from the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, into the use of machine learning to bring early diagnostics for pancreatic cancer a step closer to reality. You can find out more about this ground-breaking research by visiting the Inequalities in Cancer Outcomes Network website.
Thank you for making a gift in memory of Mike, and helping others like him to have a better chance of an earlier diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
