Welcomed through the Ceremonial Gates, drinks will be served as you make your way into Hyde Park Barracks. After a brief welcome and a short talk by Nick Wentworth-Stanley about the work James' Place undertakes to help prevent male suicide, in discussion with Lt Col Tom Armitage, highlighting the mental health issues faced by the military today, it will be time to explore.
Demonstrations will be on view around the Barracks, giving you the chance to get up close with aspects of the Regiment so synonymous with British ceremony and pageantry. These will include:
- Meeting the Drum Horses, who are always centre stage at ceremonial events.
- The Queen's Farriers demonstrating their masterful trade, and how they keep 250 working cavalry horses on the road.
- An intimate look and explanation of all the kit and uniform that is used on a daily basis.
- A tour of the Saddlers shop, seeing how all the equine leather work is made by hand using traditional methods.
- A Talk on some Household Cavalry objects of interest, including the solid silver kettledrums, gifted by King George III.
- A riding demonstration to show the skills of an army horseman and what is required from them.
Throughout the evening delicious drinks and canapés will be served around the Barracks.
