Story
REUK works with over 500 young refugees across London and the UK, as well as conducting national training programmes and international research.
We are in the process of transforming a disused bank in the centre of Harlesden into a permanent home for our work with young refugees, and a unique social impact hub for the local community. This unique refugee education centre will increase our capacity and significantly enhance the work we do with young people. The project is in partnership with a local church, Community Church Harlesden, and a social enterprise, Jigsaw Consult. In the midst of a vibrant and deprived area of London, we want to create a space where lives can be changed and both local and global social impact projects can thrive.
Help us make it happen.
We are lucky enough to have secured the building with a combination of funds already raised and a loan from Charity Bank. We have been awarded over £350,000 by Brent Council towards the refurbishment of the building. To refurbish the building and make the monthly repayments affordable we need to raise a minimum of £349,000. Every additional penny raised will reduce the size of our loan and monthly repayments, giving us more flexibility in how we use the building and deliver our services for young refugees.
The centre will allow us to respond flexibly to local needs, priorities and initiatives. We envision a flexible workspace in which ideas can grow and social initiatives can thrive, confidential meeting rooms for educational advice and guidance for young refugees and a therapeutic space to provide wellbeing support for young people. Having dedicated open spaces will also allow for delivery of training, education support activities, English conversation classes, and social or peer support activities for young refugees and others. You can read more about the project at www.reuk.org/building.
Please consider making a donation to the project. All gifts will be acknowledged in a display in the new building and we can't wait to welcome you there in due course! If you give anonymously but would like to stay in the loop about the building's progress, please let Moses know via hello@reuk.org. All gifts of £10,000 or more will be acknowledged by way of a personal plaque, subject to the wishes of donors.
