Story
Following the inaugural Swimming Gala in 2021, Portfield School is now hosting an annual event to provide fun and stimulation for the students whilst helping to raise money for new swimming equipment, which will be used by both students as well as visiting swim clubs.
Swimming is really beneficial for autistic children, not only in terms of physical fitness by helping to improve their muscle strength, coordination and balance but can also reduce anxiety. Swimming can also help improve speech, social skills, self-esteem, and cognitive processing. That's why students at Portfield have swimming lessons every week
Students will be placed in teams to compete in fun relay races throughout the week (23-27 May) with activities such as an egg and spoon race whilst swimming and balancing a rubber duck on a float - all with the aim of earning points for their team. At the end of their session, each student will get a medal and the team captain will chose someone to receive a trophy at the end of each day for the student that really stood out.
Please remember to mention the name of the team you are sponsoring when making your donation! The names for the four teams participating in the gala are:
Loch Ness / Gryffin / Hydra / Cosmos
Thank you for your support.
