Story
In Uganda, a country where education is not a right and many struggle to afford school fees, the Mwebaza Foundation operates a scholarship program to send the most deserving children to school free of charge. We have been operating this program for 5 years, and as the children have grown, we have seen a growing need for continuing scholarships into secondary school. Kamuhanda Peter is one student that has proven he would thrive with the opportunity to continue his education.
At 12 years old, Kamuhanda Peter was orphaned when his father unexpectedly died. Peter has been a recipient of the Mwebaza Foundations' scholarship program for 5 years, and has consistently performed at the top of his class. He has a love for drumming and chapti (fried bread).
Peter's current guardian is moving to a new home in another village and won't take Peter with her. Her plan is to send Peter to live with his grandmother in a remote village where there is no school. Peter wants to stay in school and in the community he knows. For months, we have been searching for someone to help Peter complete his last two years at Mwebaza School, by letting him stay in their home.
Luckily, a longtime friend of the Mwebaza Foundation and mother of two, said she would be willing to take him in. However, she is currently living in a 10x10 apartment with her two sons. We would like to help her rent a modest two-bedroom apartment, so Peter can remain at Mwebaza to finish primary school.
Ultimately, we would like to ensure Peter can go on to secondary school and stay in a loving home, so we will continue to support him and his new guardian for years to come!
