Story
Paul is a NEWSAR team member and experienced Search Manager. In January 2023 he will have served 30 years in search and rescue.
Paul is raising money for a new vehicle for NEWSAR so that they can buy a new Incident Control van.
What is an Incident Control Vehicle?
The Incident Control Vehicle is used by NEWSAR volunteers as a command centre during long searches for missing vulnerable adults and children. We are often called upon by the Police to help search for people experiencing mental health issues and those living with dementia.
This is an important vehicle to NEWSAR because it also;
Provides a private, safe, and warm environment from which to liaise with the emergency services and the families whose loved ones have gone missing.
Serves as a team welfare point during long searches, often in atrocious weather and throughout the night
Carries additional specialist emergency equipment such as rafts and flood rescue kit.
Serves as an educational hub to schools and youth groups promoting safety outdoors.
Why does it cost £75,000?
On top of the purchase price of the van we will need to custom refit the inside with moveable seating, IT equipment, including computers and radio units, and team welfare facilities. On the outside, the vehicle requires an emergency services livery which includes blue lights & sirens.
