Story
The U's and Wycombe team up to fight the stigma around mental health.
Oxford United welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday 8th October with the clubs celebrating the upcoming World Mental Health Day by holding their own Mental Health Awareness Match Day with chosen charity, YoungMinds, and Family and Community Partner, Pub Talk.
World Mental Health Day is being celebrated globally on Monday 10th October and United will use the fixture with the Chair Boys to raise awareness around mental health issues. The club will also collaborate with Wycombe on several initiatives to help fight the stigma around mental health.
The clubs chosen charity, YoungMinds, is a charity that fights for young peoples mental health and has the vision of a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.
The clubs Family and Community partner, Pub Talk hosts guests on their programme to raise awareness for such an important topic and to encourage people to speak about their issues.
In the week building up to the game between the Us and the Chair Boys next week, you can expect to see various pieces of video content and initiatives to spread awareness of mental health.
YoungMinds will have a presence outside the South Stand handing out key information about the charity and having bucket collectors outside every turnstile at the ground to raise money for such an important cause.
Both teams will also be wearing YoungMinds branded t-shirts during their warm-up before kick-off, with the club using one of these shirts to be signed and auctioned to raise additional funds for the charity.
Director of Development at YoungMinds, Vanessa Longley told us, Were incredibly grateful that Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers are supporting YoungMinds. The money raised is needed now more than ever in our fight for the mental health of children and young people across the UK."
