Story

After a yearlong battle with cancer, our amazingly strong and gorgeous son Oliver left us on the 22nd March 2023. He was such a kind, loving and beautiful soul and we will never understand why he was taken from us far too soon. He had so much more love to offer to this world. He never once got angry, complained, or felt sad. He was a true warrior throughout and fought so hard until the very end. We will love and miss him every single day for the rest of our lives. The power and love we feel from his guiding spirit are all around us and will provide us and his twin brother Ben the strength to carry on. We love and miss Oliver so, so much and even though hes not here in his physical body, the strength he provides us with, and his loving strong spirit will always be with us. We feel privileged that he shared 18 years of his precious life with us.

After complaining of leg pain over a long period, Oliver was eventually diagnosed as having a malignant nerve sheath tumour that was a type of sarcoma. Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that can affect any part of your body. A key symptom of sarcoma is a lump that gets bigger quickly. Most people get diagnosed when their sarcoma is about the size of a large tin of baked beans. There are many different types of sarcoma. All subtypes of sarcoma can be grouped into soft tissue sarcomas and bone sarcomas. Sarcomas commonly affect the arms, legs and torso. Sarcomas can also appear in the pelvis, stomach and intestines as well as behind the abdomen and internal reproductive organs.

We've chosen to support Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue and once diagnosed it is one of the hardest to treat. By donating in memory of Oliver, you can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep the specialist Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Your donations go so far in helping the sarcoma community:

£1 Could cover the cost of 10 texts to the support line.

£10 Could be used to buy microscope slides to look at cells in minute detail.

£30 Could fund one hour of use of a high-powered laboratory microscope.

£150 Could fund the support line for a week.

Thank you for your support.
