The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileOn 25 April 2019, just six weeks after Cyclone Idai, Cyclone Kenneth made landfall in Northern Mozambique. With winds up to 210 km/h, its the strongest cyclone to ever hit the country. Its also the first time on record that two cyclones of such strength have struck in the same season in Mozambique. At least 180,000 people have been affected according to the government. Cyclone Kenneth has caused extensive damage, ripping homes apart and wiping out entire communities. Save the Children are on the ground and continuing to assess the options to respond to this new disaster, with thousands still affected.
THE IMPACT OF IDAI
Around 1.5 million children have been affected by Cyclone Idai and in Mozambique alone, thousands of people are still missing. Many children lost loved ones to the floods or were separated from their families. They're also particularly vulnerable to deadly diseases like cholera and malaria in these dangerous conditions. They need the basics to survive food, water and shelter. But they also need our support in recovering and rebuilding their lives. Save the Children teams are on the ground in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, fighting to protect children as the full scale of this disaster unfolds. But none of this is possible without your support.
HOW YOUR DONATIONS CAN HELP CHILDREN NOW
Save the Children are helping children to survive and recover in the aftermath of this catastrophe. Thanks to support like yours, theyre:
Distributing food, tents, blankets and tarpaulin to thousands of families who have lost their homes
Repairing and installing water and sanitation facilities in schools and learning centres to help stop the spread of deadly diseases
Setting up mobile health clinics, mobilising over 6,000 people so that they can receive cholera vaccinations and providing mosquito nets to protect children and families from diseases such as malaria
Working in close coordination with the government and other organisations to reunite children with their families who were separated during the cyclone
Setting up child-friendly spaces protected areas where children can play, learn, express themselves and begin to recover from the distressing experience theyve been through
Support like this is critical. But much more help is needed. You can make a difference and save lives - please donate now to support those affected in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
