Story

Minds in Action - a virtual challenge event taking place on the GoJoe app between July 23 to August 6, 2021.

Join our and get moving. KMs mean points, (weighted by activity type to level the playing field). Whichever team gets the most-points, wins! It's free to take part and open to all and all exercise counts - walking, pushing, scooting, running, cycling or swimming!

The teams consist of:- Rutland Cycling, Mind BLMK, CPSL Mind, Northamptonshire Mind and Nottinghamshire Mind.

Exercise on your own, but not alone. Use this challenge to take time to enjoy a bit of community/team spirit, to invest in your physical and mental wellbeing and to move with purpose and raise money/awareness for us.

Each team has a Captain and the challenge host and Captain of Rutland Cycling is Dani Rowe MBE - a three times cycling world champion and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist. As well as taking part in the challenge, Dani and the other captains will be sharing their top tips and rallying all participants.

At Northamptonshire Mind, we are extremely lucky to have the fantastic Kieron Conway as our captain. The 25-year-old is a professional boxer fighting out of the Team Shoe-Box Gym in Northampton. His boxing record at the time of writing is 16 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. The biggest achievement of his career to date was winning the WBA Intercontinental Super Welterweight Title at Matchroom Boxings Fight Camp last year. In 2019, He also fought to a split draw for the British Super Welterweight Title against Ted Cheeseman, however his aspiration is to win that title outright and continue on to European and World level thereafter.

Despite my career still being in its infancy, Ive already been fortunate enough to compete on some of the biggest stages in boxing, with my 2 most recent contests taking place on the undercards of Anthony Joshua v Kubrat Pulev at Wembley Arena and Canelo Alvarez v Billy Joe Saunders at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Competing on these stages has given me a taste of where I want to be in the future and Ill leave no stone unturned, both physically and mentally, in order to reach my goals.

Im very proud to have been approached by MIND to become a Captain for the Minds in Action Challenge. Boxing is a sport where your mental strength is as important, if not more, than any physical attributes you possess and if I can pass on any advice, guidance or support to anyone else then Ill be more than happy to. Ive always found boxing to be a great way to channel any negative energy into something positive. Regardless of your age or ability, physical exercise is a fantastic way to achieve a healthy body and healthy mind!

GoJoe is about km-based activities, not steps. This is to encourage movement in the form of purposeful movement, rather than tracking steps from the sofa to the fridge. Every mile counts. It doesn't matter whether you're a dog walker or serious athlete - it's all about the team!

Check the app to see live updates throughout the event dates and share on social using #MindsInAction.
