Story

The Vees Rugby Club - The Peoples Club of St Albans

Established in 1948, Verulamians Rugby Football Club has been at the heart of the community for 70 years. Our rugby club has grown in numbers over the last decade and we now support over 270 children from age 6 to 17 and runs two senior sides who have been promoted twice in the last 7 years and won the Herts Cup twice in the same period. Our 1st XV currently competes in the Herts Middlesex Division 1 and our 2nd XV in the Herts Middlesex Merit Tables. The club is run by volunteers and funded through donations and sponsorship. We are a community club, one that welcomes and encourages people of all abilities to play competitive rugby, to have fun and to treat those within its ranks as family.

New Floodlights Appeal

Impact of Covid

The pandemic has shattered sporting communities across the country and the Vs Rugby Club is no exception. As a result of restrictions, 2020 and 2021 were very tough years financially for our club. With the complete loss of income from the bar and functions business, we are now looking to fundraise to ensure the continuation of our clubs improvements plan. The replacement of floodlights had initially been planned for 2020 but as a result of the pandemic, we are now looking to raise this money through a crowdfunding appeal.

No more running around in the dark!

As part of Vees Rugby Club's ongoing project to improve facilities, we are looking to raise the grand sum of £15,000 to replace the floodlights around the training pitch (Pitch 1 below) and put in place floodlights for half of the old third team pitch (Pitch 2 below) . The current set of lights have been in place for over 20 years and over time their ability to effectively light the training pitch have diminished considerably which has meant that the quality of training that we can offer to players has been impacted.

With new floodlights, the club will be able to:

- Provide better facilities for junior and senior players to train on weekday evenings under floodlights.

- Rotate weekday training areas to avoid overuse of the training and mini pitch which often turns into a mud-bath from November until March.

- Play friendly games under lights against local clubs (Not enough light under current lights)

- Improve the overall facilities that the increasing the number of players at the club and the ability to offer rugby to more of the community.

Our Club in the Community:

The Vs Rugby Club strives to provide competitive rugby and a community hub for local people of St Albans, London Colney and surrounding areas. With your help, we can continue going from strength to strength and increase the availability and quality of the rugby facilities available to those in our community.

Thank You!
