Story
Murton Trust for Education and the Environment is a charity with a dual educational and environmental purpose, situated on a former quarry near Forfar in Angus. Managing a thriving nature reserve, visitor farm and tearoom, Murton provides opportunities and a unique environment in which children, young people and adults can learn and develop skills for life.
Founded in 2001, the nature reserve has become a hidden gem, teaming with wildlife including otters. The 80 acre nature reserve flourishes with diverse habitats: lochs, wetlands, woods, wild flower meadows, and nesting sites for sand martins. It is open seven days a week and free to the public all year round and we maintain this site to a high standard for the benefit of wildlife and our community. Our visitor farm offers the community a wonderful leisure facility and also provides educational opportunities to young people in the area. The Trust uses the site to its full potential offering the rich diverse natural habitat as an educational tool that has a positive impact on all ages. Although education and the environment are our two priorities we also recognise the importance that Murton can play in improving the health and wellbeing of our community.
