Story
Since March 2000, the Mountain Heritage Trust has worked as an independent charity to protect and promote the extraordinary history of British mountaineering and climbing.
We preserve unique heritage collections relating to British mountaineering and climbing ; provide research and enquiry services ; share collections through exhibitions, events, education and publications ; and work with a range of partners to promote the widest possible access .
How can you know where you're going unless you know where you've come from?
(Lynn Robinson, British Mountaineering Council President, 2020)
2020 is our 20th anniversary year and we had planned to be on the road at outdoor events and festivals talking to people and sharing stories as well as a major fundraiser in Sheffield.
This has all been put on hold, but we've got big plans to develop our organisation and share and develop our historic climbing and mountaineering collections in new and exciting ways - but to do this we're going to need your help.
We are planning a major three year project to transform access to our collections and ensure we can preserve and share Britain's mountain heritage for the next twenty years and beyond. We will then relaunch in 2024 with a landmark exhibition (details to follow - it's under wraps for now!).
We want to raise £10,000 from the mountain community to support the match funding needed for the bid we are making to the National Lottery Heritage Fund to make this project a reality.
As our Patron Sir Chris Bonington neatly put it:
It's vitally important that we look to our fellow people who love mountaineering and the mountains and the outdoors, to actually come and specifically help MHT [Mountain Heritage Trust]
So whether you are a rock climber, mountaineer, indoor climber, outdoor climber, boulderer, researcher, reader, or simply a lover of mountains; the history in our care is there for you and we need your support.
Donate today - your donation will help the Mountain Heritage Trust to preserve and share Britain's unique and irreplaceable mountaineering and climbing heritage.
Thank you!
If our bid is unsuccessful, all funds raised will be used to support our core work to preserve and share Britain's mountain and climbing heritage.
