Story

Dear Friends,

Thank you to our Helpers and our Heroes. You fall into one of those categories. We need each other now more than ever, and over the last 3 1/2 months you have shown your true colors. The world we live in can be a better place by working together. Throughout the strife, anxiety and sadness weve recently experienced, we have been inspired by the way people have stepped up. Thank you for stepping up.

MAB believes everyone has the right to lead a full and satisfying life. While our focus has always been on social justice for individuals with disabilities we strongly believe that all marginalized communities should stand by each other as a way of strengthening each other.

One Person Who Made A Difference

The direct care staff at MAB's Adult Disability Services are making a difference every day. One of those dedicated workers was Maxo Joseph. Maxo embodied our spirit of social justice. For 19 years, Maxo made a difference by working in our residential homes, providing dedicated support for our clients and his fellow workers. As an immigrant Maxo lived the American Dream. On April 25, Maxo lost his brief battle with the Coronavirus, yet his story of devotion has created a movement here at MAB.

The $100,000 Challenge

Moved by Maxo's story, a supporter is issuing a generous challenge. We raise $100,000 and it will be matched. We are so grateful. This challenge grant will honor Maxo in a special way by creating the Maxo Joseph Award of Excellence. This award, to be given to direct care staff who go above and beyond in protecting the health and safety of individuals with disabilities, is a fitting tribute to Maxo.

During tough times we are so grateful to have the community of support. You all put the community in MAB community.

We wish you and your family health, safety, and happiness.

Barbara Salisbury,

CEO, MAB Community Services

** FOOD IS LOVE**. Maxo Joseph loved working at MAB Adult Disability Services program. For 19 years he lovingly cared for adults with developmental disabilities--he also loved to cook and feed others. Please watch video because Food is Love.
