Norm Lillybeck he was a long time Cupola committee member, contributor, and consistent author for the AFS Cupola Handbook. He was a renowned foundryman, metallurgical engineer, and scientist.
During his career, Norm worked for U.S. Steel, Brillion, Modern Equipment, Sibley Machine, and John Deere in both the foundry and in their research department, until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he remained active in foundry education and in the foundry industry. Norm was the recipient of the prestigious AFS Award of Scientific Merit (1974) and the John H. Whiting Gold Medal (1993).
Norman's active service and support of AFS and the foundry industry spanned 65 years. He loved iron and he loved foundries. He was a mentor to countless foundry engineers worldwide and shared his knowledge with enthusiasm, kindness and humility.
Following his death, Norm's family made a generous contribution to start the Norman Lillybeck Memorial Endowment. The Cupola Committee has made it a priority to fund the remaining endowment, which will provide annual scholarships at the FEF CIC, selected by the Cupola Committee, each year perpetually. Funds raised this year, along with endowment proceeds, will fund two FEF scholarships as well as adding to the permanent endowment fund.
Thanks again for considering this very important and worthwhile cause.
Sincerely,
The AFS Cupola Committee Scholarship and Education Subcommittee :
