Story
Mick was only our fourth resident and we housed him back in June 2013. His background briefly was that he was from Harrogate but had ended up street homeless in Liverpool. A still small voice told him to go back to Harrogate, so he hitched a lift back to Leeds. He had a short four nights stay with Harrogate Homeless Project before being housed by us. His previous lifestyle inevitably has its health consequences which resulted in two separate life-threatening situations which both involved emergency trips to York hospital! After a while, as his confidence returned, and he felt so much better mentally and physically, we spoke to the Council about him moving into his own flat which they were able to find for him. He was with us for nearly four years.
In a resident questionnaire Mick said Lifeline has changed my life in so many ways. A beautiful place to live. It saved my life coming to Lifeline.
Six years later we are overjoyed to report that he is still doing really well. Mick attends every Lifeline event (the fortnightly lunch club and the monthly outings) and not only that but he is now volunteering for us. The other residents all like and respect him and he is a permanent example of how change can take place and that order can come out of chaos and hope can be found.
This is just one story...there are so many. Please help us create more stories.
