With the help of Love beyond our Shores, the Circuit, through a partnership with the Mamie Martin Fund, have committed to helping 6 girls to go to Secondary School in Malawi. These girls are at St Mary's Karonga in the north of Malawi from Jan 22.
One of the two partnerships that Love Beyond Our Shores has decided to adopt is the Mamie Martin Fund which enables girls to attend secondary school in Malawi.
The Connection.
One of our local preachers had been out to Malawi with her husband to visit their son who was with Voluntary Service Overseas, working with the Forestry Service of Malawi. Whilst there they were impressed with the Malawians. Malawi is one of the poorest nations in the world, but they were welcomed everywhere with smiles and laughter.
Their son, Mark, informed them of the poor life a lot of the teenage girls suffered. Some were married at a young age, others orphans looking after siblings, some were needed at home to help the family. Secondary education had to be paid for, very few families with teenage girls could afford it .
Having been unable to go to University because of family pressures when young, Jenny was passionate about education for girls and on returning home heard of the Mamie Martin Fund. For many years Jenny and her husband have been supporting the fund personally.
Now with the help of Love beyond our Shores, the circuit have committed to helping 6 girls to go to Secondary School.
We hope that our family and friends will also contribute as well.
"Girls education strengthens economies and reduces inequality. It contributes to more stable, resilient societies that give all individuals including boys and men the opportunity to fulfil their potential." (Unicef)

We work with partner schools in North Malawi to support girls at 7 secondary schools. We pay the fees of these girls along with providing additional help for necessities so that they can benefit from their school place. We've been working there since 1993, taking forward the vision of Mamie Martin.
