Story
At Age UK Lambeth we work hard to prevent loneliness year round, but we go the extra mile at Christmas. On Christmas day we provide 65 Christmas dinners for older people (40 at the Vida Walsh centre and 25 delivered to people's homes) who would otherwise be alone.
We also organise social events between Christmas and New Year and into January which be a lonely and difficult time for people.
We need your help to provide these dinners and social events for isolated older people in Lambeth so please give generously today. If we raise more than we need for the Christmas dinners we will use this money to fund MYsocial events helping people to discover friendships, connect with their community and do things that make them happy.
£5 could pay for a present for a socially isolated older person
£10 could pay for tea and coffee for a day for MYsocial members
£25 could pay for a Christmas dinner for a lonely older person
£50 could pay for a MYsocial event for 8 people
£100 could pay for a MYsocial event for 16 people
Over 56% of people aged over 65 in Lambeth live alone and over 2,500 class themselves as lonely. Social isolation and loneliness are terrible at any time of year but these feelings can be exacerbated at Christmas when all around us we are being told we should spend time with our families. For those that don't have families you can feel excluded from the festive season.
