Message from the Chairman:

My name is Ridhwan ibn Saleem and I am the co-founder and chairman of Lady Nafisa School. I have spent my adult life in studying and teaching classical Islamic sciences, as well as working as a consultant psychiatrist. I had the blessing of travelling to places like Syria and learning from outstanding scholars. (You can read my bio here ).

I was struck by how often these scholars emphasized the importance of providing our youth with a good, Islamic education. Upon returning to the UK, after completing my Islamic scholarship training in Damascus, I noticed a worrying lack of good secondary Islamic schools for Muslims in London, which strove for excellence in both secular and Islamic subjects.

So, in 2009, myself and a small group of brothers and sisters decided to open an Islamic secondary girls school, to fill this gap. We put our trust in Allah (s.w.t) and opened Lady Nafisa school, with a zero starting budget, four initial students and a small building we were renting at the time. With tawfeeq from Allah, and an amazing group of committed teachers and volunteers, we surmounted all hurdles, and the school grew each year, receiving great feedback from government inspectors.

Since our first cohort of students graduated, we have developed a reputation for outstanding GCSE results, with most of our students going on to study at the best universities in the country. The girls are not only taught national curriculum subjects by fully qualified teachers, they also study Quran memorisation and Tajweed, Arabic, and Islamic studies in several lessons every week. By the time they leave Lady Nafisa, the girls have a solid grounding in Islamic knowledge as well as GCSE subjects.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection was in 2019, a time when many Islamic schools were being scrutinised and even being forced to close, yet Lady Nafisa school was given a resounding endorsement and was rated Good across all domains, and Outstanding in many areas.

At Lady Nafisa school we have always tried to keep fees low so that entry is possible for the majority of people. This means we have relied on loyal support from the wider community through your generous donations.

Now, because of the pandemic, we need your help more than ever. To establish the school on a solid footing, and secure a bright future for our girls, we are launching this appeal to the wider community.

We are aiming to raise £30,000 to help the school during this challenging time, and we can't do it without you.

Lady Nafisa School is not a business venture. It was never about making a lot of money and never will be. Everyone involved, from the teachers to the governors, have a genuine desire to invest in the education and upbringing of every student who attends the school, with the dream of ultimately seeing a stronger Muslim Ummah of tomorrow.

If you share this dream and believe in the transformative impact of educating our Muslim youth, both academically and spiritually, please donate today.

Please give what you can. It all adds up.

Any money you donate will go directly to the education of our younger generation. InshaAllah you will share in the reward of any knowledge they receive, as a sadaqah jariya.

Thanking you for taking the time to read this message, wa billahi-tawfeeq.

was-salam

Sh Dr Ridhwan ibn Saleem (Co-founder and Chairman)
