Story
Kenn joined the Catering Industry in September 1984 and after 36 wonderful years decided to retire to enjoy his retirement volunteering on local ventures that match his keen interests Wildlife especially conservation & working outside.
After moving from Swindon in 2019 to the country village of Shrivenham and whilst out walking my 2 x Spaniels came across the Canal Trust compound and joined officially as a volunteer during the Covid Lockdown in May 2020 to get out of House! As well as joining a small dedicated team determined to improve the Canal Park and get our section of Canal back into a Navigable condition.
Since May 2020, we have cleared the meadow of Blackthorn and brambles resulting in more Pyramidal Orchids returning. We have installed 4 x Bench seats and a New Notice Board incorporating a seat & replacing the old wire type fencing with more robust metal security fencing to our compound. I have helped Scout groups build Bug Hotels and also installed Bat Boxes to help the fauna & flora of the Canal Park.
The ongoing maintenance to the Canal Park and projects that we are wanting to carry out would be greatly improved by having a Sit On Lawn Mower (with collection Bin to prevent mulching the soil Meadow flowers prefer poor soil). It would help to store this machine and our Ancient Excavator in a weather proof Garage/Container.
Due to Covid, Kenn was not able to meet up with ex colleagues, customers and contacts and too much water (hopefully in time!) gone under the bridge, as well as now fully committed to his new Career is asking for Farewell donations as a final Good Bye and see him enjoy his new life sitting on a Lawn Mower reminiscing about bygone days!!
