Story
I am competing in this challenge in order to raise money for the Professional Cricketers' Trust and CRY. I was first introduced to CRY the same way the majority of people are, through a friend or family member unexpectedly affected by an underlying heart condition. For me, this was my Leeds Bradford UCCE teammate, Tommy Hardman. Sadly Tommy passed away in his sleep due sudden arrhythmic death syndrome. Unfortunately this story is all too common.
A few years late after finishing University and returning to play for Kent Cricket Club, I was diagnosed with a heart condition. Thanks to the medical team at Kent and CRY, my condition was picked up really fast and dealt with immediately and I was in and out of surgery with no further issues. This story is sadly is not common enough as screenings for heart conditions in people aged 14 - 35 is so low. CRY's work to increase awareness across all sports and this why the charity is dear to me and why I'm raising money for more people to have access to cardiac screenings.
Professional Cricketers' Trust is a fantastic charity that offers support to all current and former professional cricketers. Whilst the Professional Cricketers' Association assisted my transition into the coffee industry with courses and connections that helped me get my foot in the door, the Trust supports the life-long health and wellbeing of PCA members and their immediate family. This support comes in many guises whether it be through their 24-hour confidential helpline, medical care and mental health counselling. The Trust is there for its members when it's needed most
Your support would be most appreciated.
