Story
The Iowa Wesleyan University Softball program is committed to finding a balance that includes academics, competition, and leadership to build a team of quality student-athletes. In 2011 and 2013, we qualified for the National Tournament and in 2013 we finished 4th at the USCAA Nationals. In 2013, 2014, and 2016 the Tigers boasted two All-Americans each year. In 2015, three players made All-American and Samantha Shepard was selected as the Outstanding Softball Scholar for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. We also had four Tigers achieve Academic All-Conference and USCAA All-Academic honors by achieving a GPA of 3.5 or above. As a team, we achieved a 3.4 GPA in 2019-20. In 2020, the following players made Academic All-Conference and were recognized as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American honors with a 3.5 GPA: Kayla Ford, Morgan Christner, Anna Leidl, Emilee Rooney, Addison Westercamp, and Alexandra Eyman. In 2019, the Tigers were seeded second going into the Conference Tournament and finished second. In 2020, a season cut short by COVID, the Tigers finished 5-5 after a Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach.
In 2019, Morgan Christner and Kayla Ford were chosen as First-Team All-Conference and Alex Eyman was chosen as Second-Team. iN 2019, Christner was also chosen as the Pitcher of the Year in the SLIAC and Second-Team All-Region. Ford was chosen for the All-Tournament team. The Tigers ended the season 26-11 overall and 13-7 in the conference. Each year during our spring break the softball team travels to a warmer climate to play games to prepare for the regular season. While these trips are essential for our softball program to provide an enhanced experience for our student-athletes, they require us to raise additional funds to support this opportunity for our players. All funds raised help with travel, housing, and meal costs for these young ladies.
