Story

The IAS have chosen Young Lives vs Cancer as their Charity of the Year for 2023.

The money raised will be used to provide emotional, practical and financial support to young cancer patients and their families during the toughest of times.

We're aiming to raise £10,000 to support their vital services, so no family have to face cancer alone. Here is an example of how your donations could help:

£164 could pay for a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker for a day. They will aim to speak with children and young people with cancer, and their families, soon after diagnosis and help them to understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer, through treatment and beyond.

£300 could pay for a Compassionate Grant, which exist to help a family cover the bereavement costs of a young person (aged 18-25). You never plan for your child to die, you never save for their funeral, so when the worst happens this grant can be used to help pay for a fitting funeral for a child or young person.

£1,140 could pay for a family to stay for a month in a Young Lives vs Cancer Home from Home. These homes provide free self-catering accommodation near to specialist childrens cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a familys own home.

£3,200 could provide 8 families with a crisis grant, enough to put food on the table for the month and still be able to travel to hospital for treatment.
